Making it easier to collect medical payments

April 4th, 2011 Beth Krodel

Negotiating the health insurance quagmire isn’t just difficult for patients. It’s challenging for health care providers, too.

Enter PayRight Health Solutions, LLC, a Delaware-based firm that creates online tools to help medical practices more easily collect payment and to help patients understand the payment process.

PayRight, which was founded by health plan veteran Jim Bridges in February 2010, tapped Insight Designs for logo design and website design and development.

According to the PayRight website that Insight launched last week, the company’s product “acts as a payment portal in a physician’s office. As a patient departs each visit, office staff use the PayRight portal to create estimates, collect payments, and record patient payments. In addition to office collections, PayRight tracks the patient’s claim and using PayRight PayComplete and PayPlan automatically collect any balance the patient owes after insurance has paid. PayRight makes patient payment easier and faster than before!”

Getting all the daily deals in one place

March 31st, 2011 Beth Krodel

At Insight Designs, we love fun. So we were super psyched when we were tapped to do the branding and web design for Deal Nation, a Denver-based company that offers web users a one-stop shop for access to all the daily deals in their city.

In addition to creating this upbeat web design, we also created Deal Nation’s banner ads, HTML emails and their booth design for use at trade shows and other marketing events. Ellie Childs, who will celebrate her 7th anniversary with Insight Designs this fall, was the mastermind behind all of the visuals. Kudos Ellie!

Flexible, measurable and powerful

March 11th, 2011 Beth Krodel

At Insight Designs, we almost always create websites from start to finish – handling the visual design, the design implementation, the programming, the browser testing and debugging and the site launch. But once in a while, we get a request to do just one piece of the puzzle.

That’s exactly what happened with our new client SurveyConnect, a Boulder-based company that specializes in creating 360 degree assessment and survey solutions. SurveyConnect had the in-house resources to build a site, but not to design it. So they came to us. We went through our custom design process, which includes:

  • defining required elements for the home page
  • creating 3-5 unique designs
  • making two rounds of revisions to the chosen home page design
  • creating 2-3 unique designs for the internal page template
  • making two rounds of revisions to the chosen internal page design.

Once we had the home page design and the internal page design just the way the client wanted it, we simply handed them the design files, and they did the rest of the work to bring the site to life.

You come, and they’ll build it

March 4th, 2011 Beth Krodel

In case you haven’t noticed, Insight Designs has a lot of ties to the cycling world.

In our 12-year history, we’ve done scores of cycling-related sites for everyone from Descente, Excel Sports, Slipstream Sports, and the US Cycling Monument to the American Cycling Association, Wheel House Bikes, Team Hotel San Jose, and cycling greats Connie Carpenter, Davis Phinney and Taylor Phinney.

Nico and I even own a separate business – Cycling Technology – that sells high-end, ultra lightweight bike parts. And of course, our office is filled with cyclists of all levels from cruiser commuters to national champions (Nico and Keith).

So we were particularly excited to be tapped to create the website for the Boulder Valley Velodrome. Frank Banta and Doug Emerson are the masterminds behind the project that aims to build an Olympic-caliber 250-meter outdoor velodrome in Boulder County. They’ve bought the land, had the plans drawn and have all the building permits in hand. (The velodrome design was created by Peter Junek specifically for the Boulder County locale, and it will be similar to the track Peter built in Aguascalientes, Mexico for the Pan-American track championships where Sarah Hammer set world records.)

Now, Frank and Doug are looking for 250 founding members who will pay $5,000 each to complete the project. Doug calls it the “if you come, we will build it” approach.

Land, Farms and Ranches, oh my!

February 28th, 2011 Beth Krodel

Often when we build a database-driven site for a client, there are hundreds of items in the database – sometimes thousands or even tens of thousands. But a lovely site that we launched earlier this month takes the cake.

LandFarmandRanch.com, which Insight Designs designed and developed for Steamboat Springs-based Land Farm & Ranch, Inc. already has more than 60,000 properties listed for sale on its website.

The site, which bills itself as the largest land and rural property website in the U.S., features land, waterfront property, farms, ranches and luxury estates from around the world. Realtors and property owners can list their properties for a monthly fee – and get 3 months free for a limited time.

The site also offers the latest in real estate news, a blog, free buyer updates and more. If you’re looking to buy or sell property, you won’t want to miss this site: www.landfarmandranch.com.

Helping Create a National Strategy for Environmental Intelligence

February 23rd, 2011 Beth Krodel

We at Insight Designs believe in making informed decisions. That’s why we were particularly excited to create the website for The Forum on Earth Observations V, a Washington-DC conference that brings together public and private sector leaders to address the nation’s growing demand for improved environmental information.

The conference, whose mission is to create a national strategy for environmental intelligence, is organized by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, an Arlington, Virginia-based non-profit and long-time Insight Designs client.

What is environmental intelligence? It’s the most accurate and timely information available about our planet that enables governments, communities, companies and individuals to make sound decisions – decisions that save lives, protect and grow the economy, strengthen national security and improve quality of life. Environmental intelligence is a result of a critical supply chain that begins with science and observations – ground sensors, ocean buoys, stream gauges, satellites, etc. – and ends with actionable information that allows decision makers to make informed decisions, whether it’s government officials responding to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, an energy company trying to better manage its resources center to meet customer demands during a heat wave or cold blast, or emergency workers responding to a hurricane or earthquake. From barren asphalt lots to vibrant schoolyards

February 4th, 2011 Beth Krodel

In our 12 years of creating websites, we at Insight Designs have loved working with non-profits. It’s humbling to see how so many organizations are doing amazing things – big and small – to impact our world in wonderful ways.

Over the past nine months, we’ve had the pleasure of working with the Boston Schoolyard Initiative (BSI), a non-profit that since 1995 has reclaimed more than 130 acres of barren asphalt and converted them into 78 vibrant schoolyards throughout the city of Boston. These schoolyards provide more room for kids to play safely outside, but they also allow teachers space to try new creative approaches to outdoor learning.

You can find out more about BSI on their new website – schoolyards.org, which we designed and developed for them. Carlos Real and Keith Harper created the visual design. Ellie Childs did the design implementation and site production. Evan Kuo programmed the custom content management tools, including the project portfolio, photo gallery, news features, and more. Mike Kohn handled QA and training. And yours truly did site architecture and project management. Definitely a great team effort.

Yoga and music anyone?

January 27th, 2011 Beth Krodel

This week, the Insight Designs team launched our first dual CMS site. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about – that means we created a website that uses two different open-source content management systems. This isn’t something we typically do, but for this client – Hanuman Festival -  it made the most sense.

Why two different systems? Because one of them – WordPress – is the best, easiest-to-use, lowest cost, most flexible solution for content-rich sites, where the client will be adding and updating photos, videos and text; and the other – Magento – is the best, easiest-to-use, lowest cost, most flexible solution for e-commerce sites. And the Hanuman Festival site has lots of cool content in a variety of formats AND it sells tickets (and will sell merchandise later this spring).

The client gets the best of both worlds. The only drawback is that they have to learn to use two different content management systems. But both administrative interfaces are quite intuitive and Mike Kohn, Insight’s tester and trainer extraordinaire, did a great job training Yoshi and his crew from Hanuman.

Enough about the boring technology behind it. I’m sure you’re more interested in hearing more about the Hanuman Festival – a community-oriented yoga and music festival featuring world-class yoga instructors, mind-blowing music, inspirational experiences and more. Tickets for the four-day event that will take place in Boulder June 16-19 are on sale, and they’re sure to go fast. The site just launched, and it already has 390 Facebook fans! Beth Makes the “Forty Under 40″ List!

January 18th, 2011 Nico Toutenhoofd

The Boulder County Business Report released today the names of the 2011 Forty Under 40 honorees, and I’m proud to say that my business partner and co-owner of Insight Designs, Beth Krodel, deservingly made the list. I won’t say how old Beth is, but suffice it to say this was her last chance.

Here’s what BCBR publisher Christopher Wood had to say: “We were very impressed by the quality of the nominations and the caliber of the individuals nominated. The Boulder Valley is very fortunate to have these dynamic young professionals poised to assume leadership roles – and many who have already done so.”

Read the full article and see the complete list here.

Woo-hoo!
